Understanding Your Heroic Journey

By Saleem Rana Everyone on this planet is on their own particular heroic journey, an archetypal journey of the hero or heroine that has been portrayed throughout recorded time in the mythology of the world. Here is a brief explanation of the meaning of the archetypes used to describe the heroes journey. It begins with departure from the known or conventional, from consensual reality. It proceeds onto initiation. And it culminates in our return to tell others about the lessons of our adventures, and hopefully to provide a map to those who may follow. During the departure stage, there is a call to adventure, a sudden understanding that things are going to change. This call disrupts a comfortable routine and the person often feels inadequate and unprepared for the journey. However, once a decision is made to take the leap into the unknown, supernatural aid appears. This is usually in the form of meeting the right people or stumbling upon some necessary new information or resources that will initiate the journey. Once the first threshold is crossed, the journey begins in earnest. And it is now when the hero or heroine finds themselves in the belly of the whale, which is a time of metamorphosis, an entry into a dark place where the skills learned before the journey no longer work. Now begins the initiation. Before the transformation can occur, trials, tests, and heavy ordeals must be borne. Failure is now the norm because the new has to be explored through trial and error. As the trials proceeds, the Goddess is met. This is a symbol for unconditional love and acceptance of self, a renewal of self-unification, an amplification of intention. Then, something unexpected happensthe temptress is met. This in world mythology has been personified to be a woman. It comes to symbolize the desire to be seduced by the lure of what once existed, the comfort of returning to the known. If this temptation is resisted, then something else has to be confronted in its place: atonement with the Father. This means that one has to die to the old in order to fully assume the powers of the new. An incredible power is met and surrendered too. Only in this way can the old self die so that the new self, the transformed one, can live. Once this condition is met, there is an apotheosis, deification. A heavenly state is attained; the person becomes divine in some way. With this transformation, the ultimate boon is granted, the Holy Grail is found, the journey is successfully completed and what the person came to get has been secured. After this, however, the return has to take place. Again, as in the very beginning, there is a deep reluctance. There is an initial refusal to return. Sometimes, too, once one has secured the goal, one must escape from the jealous guardians of the secret that has been won. Now, with the journey in its descent, after reaching a lofty ascent, the hero or heroine once again is in need of guides and assistants on how to return. Again, too, a threshold has to be crossed, this time back to where the person came from. Now the person has become master of two worlds, the new and the old, or the inner and the outer. A new freedom to live has been experienced. All of us travel through these three stages, with their numerous substrates, when we begin and complete the heroic journey. When a new mother has her first child, when a young person secures their first job, when a traditionally employed person leaps to become an entrepreneur, when a writer sets to create a new book, or when somebody goes to a specialist to seek healing for a wounded psychethe heroic journey begins. Mythology speaks of this journey and gives us all a map on what the stages of it are. Understanding the symbols behind the myths help us complete our own particular journey. Without truly grasping the import of the heroic journey, as told throughout time and transmitted via the language and traditions of diverse people, we may not recognize that we are all heroes, and we may either get lost along the way or shirk the completion of our unique quest. People can be obvious outer heroes, whose name and accomplishment are made known as significant points in history; and they can also be inner heroes, spiritual adventurers seeking a refinement of sensibility that leads to deep spiritual understanding; and they can be you and I, as we step into a new phase in our lives where we must transform ourselves because vital structures of our lives have collapsed and something new has to be grasped. Avian Influenza (Bird Flu), Fact or Fiction?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_F_Thompson] John F Thompson Most of us are well aware of the Avian Influenza, Bird Flu virus, by now. Seems we can’t go a day without hearing about this or that town, mostly in Asia, that now has avian influenza in a few if not 100′s to 1000′s of it’s Fowl (Ducks, Geese, Chickens, Turkey etc..). Some news stories are also starting to surface that the H5N1 strain of the virus, this is the one that infects humans, is also starting to spread, again mostly in Asia. So far the United States has not had anyone infected with the H5N1 strain, or I should say nothing has been reported yet anyway. It’s always been the fear that if the avian influenza virus were to somehow mutate into a strain that could pass easily from person to person, this would be the first big sign of a coming pandemic (Worldwide spread of the Virus). One of the biggest worries that a few of the experts have, WHO (World Health Organization) being one, is that China is under-reporting how many people actually have the H5N1 strain of avian influenza. It would be hard to imagine the economic horror that would accompany a revelation, if in fact it had many more reported cases and deaths then it was actually reporting. Look at it this way, most of the Items that Americans, and a lot of others for that matter, buy have that old Made In China label attached, what do you think most people would do if they thought a fast spreading version of the avian flu virus, by fast I mean person to person, was in China? It’s human nature to want to stay away from anything that may have come in contact with an infectious disease. Remember the Mad Cow Disease scare? Plenty of people avoided beef products all together. In fact it almost single handedly decimated the beef industry. The United States stopped importing beef from Canada and Japan stopped importing beef from the United States. Or how about the Sars virus? By now you have a good idea what would happen if the human version of the avian flu were to mutate into a form that could easily spread from human to human. It’s always good to be wary about something that could drastically impact your life, just don’t take it so far that you stop enjoying life because you are too worried about what may or may not happen. Remember, live life to it’s fullest, or as that little ditty used to say, “Don’t worry, be happy”. Flirting For A Long-Term Relationship

By Sharon Jacobsen Have you ever wondered why we flirt? I mean, we’ve all done it at some time but it’s one of those things that we do without really giving any though to why or how. Quite simply, flirting’s our way of letting the opposite sex know that we’re available. What it says we’re available for depends entirely on how we flirt but for the sake of this article, I’ll concentrate on the flirting that’s done when you’re with somebody you might like to develop a committed relationship with. If you’re a bit on the shy side, perhaps lacking in self confidence after being away from the singles scene for a long time, flirting can be quite a daunting task. It isn’t difficult. It’s like everything else; practice makes perfect so if you want to be a successful flirt on the serious dating scene, you need to start sticking your toes back in the water before you dive in after the big fish. Find a few fellas who you think are nice but are unlikely to bump into at the local post-office or your regular watering hole and practice your flirting skills on them. If you get it wrong the most you’ll lose is the time you spent flirting but you’ll have learned a lot. When you start to feel confident, that’s the time to home in on the guy of your dreams and show him what you’re made of. * Smile Picture the scene. You’re sitting at a pavement cafe on a warm, sunny day. A reasonably nice looking guy walks past, glances in your direction but looks as miserable as sin. Five minutes later another reasonably nice looking guy walks past. This one looks across as you and smiles. Which of them would you most likely want to get to know better? My bet’s that you’d go with the second guy, simply because he smiled. A smile immediately gives your appearance more warmth so you’ll seem more open and inviting to others. When he talks, smile in appropriate places. Don’t sit there grinning like a Cheshire cat; at best you’ll appear false, at worse he’ll think you’ve forgotten to take your medication. A smile shows interest and best of all, it’s contagious. * Eye Contact Everybody enjoys looking at something they find appealing and you don’t want him to think you don’t fancy him, do you? If you’re shy or insecure about flirting you’ll perhaps find it difficult to hold his gaze for a moment longer than you should but you really MUST look at him when he’s speaking. Looking at everything else will just say “that crack in the pavement’s more interesting to look at than you” and that’s hardly what you want, is it? If, on the other hand, you’re super confident, don’t go making the reverse mistake and spend the evening staring at him. Men may love to boast to their mates that “she couldn’t take her eyes off me” but in reality, being stared at makes a person feel awkward and embarrassed. * Touch Him A difficult one, this! Especially if you’re shy. Think back to primary school and that boy who fancied you (or fancied your mate, or whoever). Remember how he used to push you in the corridor or pull your hair in the playground? It’s hardly strange we find it difficult to understand the opposite sex when that’s how they behave when they fancy us but it was all about having the opportunity to touch us. Now that we’re older we have to find other ways of touching one another without appearing to be too intimate. Dancing’s a good solution, as is touching his arm or knee when laughing together. Losing your balance slightly whilst walking together so that you have to reach out and balance yourself against him’s another good ploy, as is asking him to help you on with your coat. * Feel Sexy Dress to feel sexy but remember that sexy isn’t about showing it all. In fact, it isn’t necessarily about showing anything! The way the fabric feels against your skin, heels and wearing your frillies underneath your dress can all make a woman feel sexy without looking cheap. The really good news though, is when a woman feels sexy she’ll automatically appear sexy to the opposite sex. * Show Interest Sounds pretty obvious doesn’t it, but sometimes it’s easy to think we’re showing interest even though the signals are actually saying something else. Showing interest is a mix of all what’s gone before; not looking at the floor instead of at him, touching him when you have the chance, looking him in the eye and smiling, but above all, it’s about listening to what he’s saying and asking questions. If you were interesting in buying a house, I’m should you’d listen keenly to what the owner or estate agent had to say and ask plenty of questions, wouldn’t you? Do the same when you’re interested in a man! After all, how important’s a house compared with a loving, supportive life partner? * Appreciate Your Date Whether you’ve had lunch, taken a walk around the park or spent an evening together, thank him for it and tell him how much you’ve enjoyed it. Don’t go OTT; just say you’ve had a lovely time and that he’s been good company. Whatever you do, don’t leave the date without letting him know that you’re available for another. By saying nothing you’re likely to leave him believing that you don’t want to see him again. At the very least, you’d leave him feeling confused and if his self-confidence isn’t right up there next to the likes of Mick Jagger and Peter Stringfellow, he’s hardly likely to call again. Saying something like “give me a call if you fancy doing it again” will open the way for him to make further contact. Playing hard to get rarely works. Now it’s up to you to get out there and start practising your flirting skills. It may seem like a daunting task right now but believe me, it won’t be long before flirting becomes second nature and you’ll be wondering what the fuss was all about. Have fun. Mediterranean Diet – Wonderful & Lousy Reasons for Losing Weight

By Ray Darken Lousy Reasons to Lose Weight “I want to be a size 0.” “You can never be too thin.” “I want to fit into the same clothes I wore in high school.” “I want to be a waif.” “People will see me as more glamorous.” “People will see me as more childlike.” “Thin people are more popular.” “I want to look like a model.” “Every one else is underweight.” “I want higher cheek bones.” “People will be nicer to me if I am smaller.” “Other people tell me I look fat even though I am within the ideal body weight limits.” “If I lose all of the weight for good, maybe I can stop throwing up after I eat once and for all.” If any of the comments above resemble your own rationale for losing weight then you don’t have a weight problem. The Natural Growth Hormone Myth and Weight Loss

By Jonathan Perez I’m reading a lot lately about training techniques that supposedly raise your natural growth hormone (GH) to help you lose weight / burn fat. Techniques such as super sets, drop sets, static holds, high volume, very high reps, pumping, and circuit training are claiming to be the way to “naturally” raise this hormone in the body. People are recommending to train in such a way that will give you that “deep burning sensation” in the muscle, which allegedly is an indication that lactic acid and growth hormone is being released. Now, those that believe in this think that this GH release and elevation in the body will help accelerate the fat burning / weight loss process. Well, true, growth hormone DOES burn fat…….but when raised in high dosages. Here’s the real world truth that these individuals are either unaware of or are ignoring: The body’s natural GH production is from 1 IU to 2 IU per day, at most, even during a weight loss workout. However, it takes at least 4 IU a day to see a real difference in any fat you may burn. That’s more than DOUBLE the amount of GH that your body can naturally produce (without drugs), regardless of how much of a “burn” your feeling or how many super sets, drop sets, or circuit training sessions you perform. Many confuse feeling a burn in the muscles while training with burning body fat. Others think that getting an incredible pump is an indication that they are putting the weight loss wheels into motion. Now, dont get me wrong. Any type of exercise, whether it gives you are burn or pump, or not, is excellent and must be done if you are serious about losing weight. However, the issue I want to clarify here is that it is becoming more and more popular lately to create fat burning / weight loss programs around the basis of raising the bodys natural GH levels. Entire books and programs are being written for those that want to lose weight fast on the foundation of this misconception. Always keep in mind the 2 biggest and most important factors to lose weight / burn body fat: 1. Intense weight training to build lean muscle 2. Eating the correct calorie amount for your particular body type / metabolism, regardless of what type of calories they are Focus on those 2 factors and I guarantee you that youll lose weight 1000 times faster than those that are trying to raise their GH. So, next time you read some article about someone claiming that you can burn fat from naturally raising your bodys growth hormone, you now know that in the REAL WORLD it won’t work to help you burn fat / lose! Philippine Love – So You Want To Marry A Filipina?

By Keith Driscoll Getting married to a Philippines woman is a great thing but not always great for everyone, it’s that old story, a Philippines girl can be all things to a man, but not every Philippines lady can be all things to every man, in other words it’s not a good idea to stereotype Philippine women. Very often Philippine girls are shoved in the same pigeon hole as all other ladies from the South East Asian countries, such as China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea. The ladies from these countries, tend to have totally different languages, different religions different cultures, different ways of eating food, the only thing they portion is the Pacific Ocean if they can travel to their local beach. In that sense, if I am honest, I really ought to deter British Men from marrying Philippine ladies simply because they are ‘Filipina’ perpetuated by most mythical notion that Filipina’s are wonderful, submissive wives that never answer back, and are fantastic in the bedroom! So I have set a little test for the prospective husband to see if he really knows anything about his possible future wife, country, culture and customs. There are no fixed answers to the questions, but they will assist you to see beyond the tunnel vision of love. The Test: 1. Can you find the Philippines on a map? 2. Do you know what is the Capital City of the Philippines? 3. Do you know what are the main regions of the Philippines? 4. Do you know who is the President of the Philippines? 5. Do you know what are the main languages spoken in the Philippines, and your potential wife’s local dialogue? 6. Do you know what the main religions practiced in the Philippines? 7. Do you know why innumerable Filipinos have Spanish names? 8. Are you prepared to have children, if so, are you prepared for many and various children? 9. Are you prepared to provide ‘Sustento’ (alimony) for your extended Philippine family for education and other expenses, if they need your benefit? 10. Are you fairly tolerant of superstitions? 11. Do you like fish products? 12. Do you know what eating implements are preferred? Chopsticks, cutlery or fingers. 13. Do Filipinos bow to each other? 14. Do you expect your Philippine wife to be submissive and obedient after the marriage? 15. Are you just getting married for sex? Be honest about this. 16. What is the difference between Tagalog, Filipino, Bisayan, Cebuano, Ilongo? 17. What do you think the differences are between a Thai woman, A Japanese woman or a Philippine woman? 18. Are you wanting to marry a Philippine lady because you think you dislike British ladies? Be honest with yourself. 19. Do you like hot climates or hate them? Mosquito’s? Poisonous snakes & spiders? 20. Are you tolerant of Bureaucracy or are do you not suffer fools gladly ? 21. Are you prepared for the costs involved? At least one visit to the Philippines plus all the visa fees (UK presently over 1000). 22. How long are you prepared to wait to get her to the UK? It can be done within 6 months from original contact, but usually a year. If they are already wed, this can take as long as two years to get an annulment (usually a few thousand pounds). If they have children they wish to bring with them, and the farther is named on the birth certificate, this can cause further delay and costs. Remember one very authorized point. A very small minority of Asian ladies are out to get money off you nothing else. If a Filipina ever asks for hard cash before you have met, move on, or you will find yourself with more problems you can handle. You can tell a true Filipina, they will NEVER ask for hard cash. Keith Driscoll is the owner of Filipino UK, and runs a free forum and dating site to help others find love, and help with all things to do with the Philippines. What Exactly Are Cellular Hotspots?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bart_Rutherford]Bart Rutherford Cellular hotspot… is a new phrase that is related to making a certain place suitable for cellular or WIFI use. Enabling the entire area in a WIFI is somewhat an impossible thing to do for a lot of reason. One reason that can be seen is economics. Putting a certain place in a marketable map would require a lot of money. Some of the areas in a certain country or place are usually not accessible for such a cable connection would be inevitable. One reason is the connectivity of the island and the means by which the place is given enough budget for support. Whats Keeping All Countries from Reaching All Areas for Communication? Tourism and marketability of the place should also pose a problem. If the place does not support enough number of people to boost up its money-generating status, it is usually hard to find a way to get all places connected electronically. Several program applications have been used so far to alleviate this issue. Just in Taiwan, WiMax is used to connect several areas of the country to get the place within the reach of cellular and other electronic communication devices. In some cases, where cable and DSL connection will not be available in the area, satellite use is encouraged. Although satellite provides a relatively slower data transfer compared to the above method of connection, it surely is an alternative way to reach to other communities where the above connection will not be possible. Collaboration All-Over… International and local communications giants are working hand in hand for the installation of such electronic communication technologies. Microchips and computer technology companies have joined the race to make every place in the world to be within communication-reached. Enumerating on the positive outcome that be brought about by the installation of such electronic gadgets around an island, there are also negative consequences for such. Providing all this connection may pose a connection hurdle towards all stations where connection is given. Although technologies are available to avoid this from happening, in practice, it is however, costly to support the installation of electronic communication stations per specific radius per region in order to avoid communication log-phase and line-breakdown. In East Asian countries alone, Intel and other local satellite and cable media communications giants are taking the leap on networking solutions through a cable-free environment and rely on satellite technologies. Each company has a role to take in this ambitious pursuit. Monitoring, administration of communication, relay processing, data transcription, video and sound message transmission. All these have kept the technology from evolving and contributed to the development of a sound and more profound satellite communication scheme. What is Being Done So Far? To alleviate the above scenarios, a similar digital technology used in cellphones is now used in several areas across a region. This technology allows all data to be received in a single microcellular gear embedded in a box functioning much like in a super computer semiconductor. This cellular semiconductor gear allows two-way communications and handles all function related to GPRS, SMS, video and sound transfer. While this technology is already available, it is still under the experimenting stage, and improving some areas that may cause problems in the future. Running a test on certain areas and using such tool to existing communication technology in order to determine compatibility. One good thing about this invention is its size. While a single radio/phone station that will handle most of the data transcription is usually large and requires a large space, the microcellular GSM gadgets can fit into something like the size of a box similar to that of a PC monitor case. This technology is best for it works less on cables and relying more on satellite technology. The end result, it would reduce the number of landline cables in the community and would make way for the development of the nascent satellite machinery. Cheap Yet Highly Useful Technology… At this point in time, the good thing about this new technology is its ability to supply such service to a relatively vast area without spending the cost of physical cable connections. The aerial mode of communication transmission is more efficient and does not make use of resources that would generate more expenses and risk to the community. Five Tips On Writing Essays in College

By Chris Stout Writing is an essential skill for any college student. Even if youre a biologist or a mathematician, you still need to write lab reports and proofs. Every college student has to take at least one writing-intensive course. College level essay writing doesnt have to be overwhelming. Here are five tips thatll help you write better essays: 1. If you havent read the book, take good notes in class, and discuss the points covered in your notes. In an ideal world, every student would read every book and turn in every assignment. In reality, thats not what happens. Things come up. Certain classes begin to take precedence over other courses. You may find yourself having to juggle different assignments in such a way, that one slips through the cracks. Dont panic. If simply dont have anytime to finish reading that thousand page Dostoyevsky novel, you can still turn in a quality essay. If you have to sacrifice reading the book, then you better go to class and take out-of-this-world notes. Wrap your mind around the important historical, philosophical and thematic issues, and discuss these topics in your essay. Mine the book for two or three quality citations, and youll be fine. This method should only be used as a last resort, because when you turn in essays in this fashion, you might make the grades, but youll lose out on your education. 2. If you have read the book, extract an original take from it. Dont just regurgitate what you read, analyze it and develop a unique way of discussing the issues covered in the book. In a college essay (or any essay for that matter) you are free to argue whatever point you want, as long as you can back it up with supporting evidence. Dont write something that you think your teacher wants to hear, and dont spit your professors opinions back at them. Develop your own distinctive opinion, and argue it thoroughly. 3. Try to combine multiple ideas from the course. Tie in what youve learned. Think outside of the topic and weave together different threads from the fabric of the class. Reference your lecture notes, and previous reading materials. Make connections in the curriculum. Professors love that kind of stuff. 4. Include historical perspectives. Whatever you are writing, you can always find little tidbits of interesting historical facts to throw in. Type your essay topic in an Internet search engine and follow the term with the word facts. You will be presented with pages of fact sheets that you can mine for valuable trivia. Whenever you want to add thickness to your argument, couch your claims in a relevant historical context. 5. Dont ever plagiarize. Plagiarizing is lazy, useless and dangerous. You want to strive for originality in whatever endeavor you undertake. You should never want the opinions of others to be confused with your own unique takes. Furthermore, plagiarizing can get you in serious trouble. If you havent done the work, take evasive action and buy more time. Its better to turn in an excellent tardy paper than a worthless on-time essay. College essay writing isnt a mystery. You need to read your materials, take good notes during your lectures and pick an essay topic. Then you organize your ideas, craft a cleverly worded thesis statement, and set about proving your assertion with supporting evidence. Thats it. Just be original, think outside the topic and always remember to answer the question entirely. Review more industry related articles by Chris Stout at CareersandEducation.com.
